"Ain't nothing in the world that can hold us back"

Interview with CGA October 2007
1.You began your musical journey with Alone Again Or, was there ever an album recorded but not released by that group?

only a handful of tracks. mercifully, the sh*m*n never became quite big enuff to warrant a re-release of any a.a.o material.

2.You are known for your fantastic special voice, have you ever taking voice lessons or did the amazing sound just come out from you natural, also wich song has your favorite voice performence in The Shamen years?

if yon wastrel's warbling ever sounded any good on those trax that's in no small part due to the sonic skills of tonmeisters like brian pugsley, ian tregoning,nu idol, smarties et al who engineered the recordings.
jhelisa anderson's "phorever people" lead was powerful, and terence mckenna's spooky "re evolution" also. reckon my own voice sounded best on "mercury" from the last album.

3.What is the funniest thing that happend in the Shamen years?

well, the very fact that such a dubious crew of substantially crazed desperadoes ever became successful/notorious at all is still fairly hilarious. how about the time when plastic plavka performed a "pj proby" live on stage? amusingly seam-ripping(if not side-splitting).

4.Wich artist/groups do you listen to these days?

mostly comps of obscure pop-psych stuff exhumed from the vinyl graveyard like the fading yellow series,mr toytown presents and psychic circle cd's.

5.Whats the best album ever recorded?

bruder des schattens, sohne des licht by popol vuh.

6.The Shamen where an amazing band, but the ultimate Shamen experience was when you played live. How come the you never released an live album/video?

there was a "studio live" comp of bbc radio sessions on john peel's strange fruit label, and talk of inclusion of excerpts from glastonbury appearances on a dvd,not sure if that ever happened tho.

7.Will Sin and Mr.C was two different personalitys, what was the biggest difference between them?

will sin was possessed of a highly astute political sensibility.

8.With Pablo Sandoz you did a lof of Shamen fans happy, no one hadnt see you in years. But then when you returned your guestbook on myspace and Pablo Sandoz site was filled with message how much people had miss you and how much your music has mean to them. Did that influence you even more to make new music?

of course,it's always encouraging to receive some positive feedback. surprising anyone remembers after all this time.

9.Axis Mutatis was delayed because of OLI wanted a more pop oreinted album, was there a very big difference between the original to the final version? Also did it have the same songs as the original or was some added?

recall there were a few mixes left off the final release, presumably still gathering dust in the o.l.i vaults.

10.Does the psycadelic substances still intresst you as it did in the 80's and 90's?

certainly, attended the centenary symposium for dr. albert hofmann in basel last year, will be returning there for the world psychedelic forum next spring.

11. What's your thoughts around todays dance music scene?

seems a tad commercial and somewhat lacking in hallucinogenius

12.There where six songs that was going to be released on Nemeton after you've dematerialised, "Valley of the Kings", "I Do" (12" Mr C mix), "Tek Funk", "Ectomorph", Beamship(whole version) and "Sativa"(Advent Mix). Sadly they never got released on the web. Whats the chance for them being released?

if u.v ever breaks even, then they can come out.

13.Thanks and good look with the Pablo Sandoz project.

cheers,g'luck with the cyberwood too.
